Dr. Fred Garrett earned DDS (1958) and MS (1963) degrees from Washington University School of Dentistry in St. Louis, Missouri. He is a certified member of the American Board of Orthodontists and currently serves as a clinical professor in the Graduate Orthodontic Department at UTHealth School of Dentistry in Houston. Dr. Garrett was the president of the Southwestern Society of Orthodontists and received the society's Martin E. Dewey Distinguished Service Award in September 2002. He is an active member of the American Association of Orthodontists, for which he received the James E. Brophy Distinguished Service Award in 2002. Additionally, he has been on the board of directors for the American Association of Orthodontists Foundation since 1993 and currently serves as the National Campaign Chairman. As a fellow of both the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists, Dr. Garrett has been teaching in the Graduate Orthodontic Department at UTSD since 1968 and has previously held positions as interim program director and interim department chairman. He lectures extensively on topics related to diagnosis and treatment planning, including treatment mechanics and surgical orthodontics. Dr. Garrett is dedicated to teaching orthodontic residents and treating orthodontic patients in the clinic.
