Biography

Fred Paxton joined the University of Glasgow in September 2024 as a Research Fellow in Political and International Studies, funded by the Leverhulme Trust through an Early Career Fellowship. His research focuses on identity politics and place-based frameworks within divided societies. Fred earned his PhD from the European University Institute in Florence, Italy, in 2021. His work has been published in prominent academic journals including Political Science Research Methods and Government Opposition, and he is the author of a book titled 'Restrained Radicals: Populist Radical Right Parties in Local Government', published by Cambridge University Press in 2023. His research interests include populism, subnational politics, online political communication, and social movements, particularly how movement parties operate within democratic frameworks. He is also interested in supervising potential PhD students in these areas.
