Dr. Fred Schurink

Biography

Fred Schurink is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Manchester specializing in Early Modern Literature. He was educated at the University of Amsterdam and the Warburg Institute in London, earning his MAs, and completed his D.Phil. at the University of Oxford. Since joining the University of Manchester in 2014, he has held various positions, including Research Associate and Leverhulme Early Career Fellow at Newcastle University, as well as a lecturer at Northumbria University. His research interests encompass early modern English and European literature and their global connections, with a particular focus on Shakespeare. Schurink examines the transnational circulation of texts that challenge the predominantly national narratives of literature during the early modern period. He employs Bibliographic Data Science to analyze the implications of England's peripheral role in the European book market, particularly regarding access to foreign literature.
