Biography

Frédéric Ouellet is a professor at the School of Criminology at the Université de Montréal. His research primarily focuses on criminal careers, aiming to contextualize criminal behavior and better understand the factors dictating criminal activities. Ouellet investigates various parameters characterizing these trajectories, including crime frequency, criminal performance, severity, and co-offending habits. His work reflects the perspective that crime is a sequence of events influenced by both static (individual characteristics) and dynamic (life circumstances) factors. Additionally, he applies the framework for studying criminal careers to explore other types of trajectories, such as those of pathological gamblers and victims of intimate partner violence. He has received the Excellence in Teaching Award from the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at the Université de Montréal for the academic year 2018-2019.
