Dr. Frederick Bird

Biography

Frederick Bird is an Emeritus Professor and Adjunct Professor at the University of Waterloo, specializing in Political Science. He holds a degree with Magna Cum Laude in History from Harvard, and has also attended Harvard Divinity School and the Graduate Theological Union, where he focused on American responses to poverty for his thesis. Before his current position, he served as a Distinguished Professor Emeritus at Concordia University and was a Research Chair in Comparative Ethics. Professor Bird has organized significant research projects on contemporary religious movements and comparative views of violence, and explored how managers address ethical issues in varied contexts. Since the late 1990s, he has led a large, multi-university study on the practices of internationally-connected businesses in developing countries. His extensive research contributions include co-editing six books and publishing numerous essays and case studies concerning the ethical implications of corporate practices in countries like Nigeria, Madagascar, and South Africa. His current work includes an essay titled 'Weber Ethics' for a forthcoming book on Development Practices in Global Ethics, which examines the intersections of environment, business practices, human rights, and interfaith movements.
