Biography

Frederick Brenneman is an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto and the Medical Director of Trauma Services at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. He graduated from medical school at the University of Toronto in 1988 and completed his general surgery residency in 1994. Furthering his expertise, he undertook a trauma surgery fellowship at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. Since 1995, he has served as a trauma general surgeon and intensivist at Sunnybrook, where he has developed a clinical practice focusing on trauma surgery, critical care medicine, and general surgery, with special emphasis on complex abdominal wall hernias and laparoscopic ventral hernia repairs. Dr. Brenneman has played a key role in establishing the acute care surgery service at Sunnybrook and has contributed to national leadership and organizational development for acute care surgery in Canada. He is the Immediate Past-President of the Trauma Association of Canada and actively participates in trauma education, including directing Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) and Advanced Trauma Operative Management (ATOM) courses.
