Dr. Frederick Steiner

Biography

Frederick Steiner is the Dean and Paley Professor at the University of Pennsylvania's Stuart Weitzman School of Design. He has a rich academic and administrative background, having previously served as the Dean of the School of Architecture at the University of Texas at Austin for 15 years. His teaching experience includes positions at Arizona State University, Washington State University, and the University of Colorado at Denver. He has also been a visiting professor of landscape architecture at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. Steiner is a Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects and has significantly contributed to sustainable landscape design initiatives, including helping to establish the Sustainable SITES Initiative. He has held various prestigious roles, including a presidential appointment to the national board of the American Institute of Architects. Steiner's academic credentials include a Master of Community Planning and a BS in Design from the University of Cincinnati, as well as a PhD in City and Regional Planning from the University of Pennsylvania. He has received numerous accolades, including an honorary MPhil in Human Ecology from the College of the Atlantic in 2023, and has been recognized as an Outstanding Alumni by the UC College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning.
