Dr. Fredric Kraemer

Biography

Fredric Kraemer is the Gerald M. Reaven, M.D. Professor of Endocrinology at Stanford University, with over 40 years of experience as a board-certified endocrinologist. His clinical focus includes the treatment of diabetes mellitus, particularly Type 1 diabetes, along with lipid metabolism disorders, such as elevated cholesterol and triglycerides. Throughout his career, he has held notable positions including Chief of the Division of Endocrinology, Gerontology, and Metabolism at Stanford from 2002 to 2022, and Associate Chief of Staff for Research Development at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System from 2002 to 2007. He has received numerous accolades, including the prestigious SmithKline Beecham Junior Faculty Award in 1998 and the Special Emphasis Research Career Award from the NIH. Fredric Kraemer's research primarily revolves around cellular lipid and lipoprotein metabolism, with a particular emphasis on understanding the mechanisms regulating cholesterol and triglyceride accumulation within cells. His current projects investigate the regulation of hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL), which plays a crucial role in fat mobilization and cholesterol metabolism.
