Dr. Fredrik Gustafsson

Biography

Fredrik Gustafsson is a Professor in Sensor Informatics at Linköping University. He has a strong research focus on stochastic signal processing, adaptive filtering, change detection, and their applications in various fields including communication, vehicular, airborne, audio, and wildlife. Gustafsson received his M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering in 1988 and completed his Ph.D. in Automatic Control in 1992 at Linköping University. Before becoming a professor in Communication Systems from 1999 to 2005, he held various positions in automatic control. He has served as an associate editor for several prestigious journals such as IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing and has been actively involved in the Swedish Research Council as head of the Signal Systems review panel. He was awarded the Distinguished Professorship by the Swedish Research Council for the period 2015-2024 and is an IEEE Fellow as of 2011. Furthermore, Gustafsson is a member of the Royal Academy of Engineering Sciences and has received multiple awards for his research contributions, including the Arnberg Prize and the Entrepreneurial Researcher of the Year award from Linköping University. His notable publications focus on innovative methods for multi-agent terrain-aided navigation, direction sensitivity-based estimation, and the integration of external sensors in collaborative environments, indicating his diverse and impactful research contributions.
