Fredrik Laurell received his M. Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Lund University in 1983 and a Ph.D. in Physics from KTH in 1990. He worked as a visiting research scientist at DuPont Experimental Station in Wilmington, DE, USA from 1990 to 1991. His research interests include studies of optical materials, nonlinear optics, guided wave optics, and laser physics, aiming to bridge the gap between fundamental science and real-world applications. Laurell holds 17 patents and has authored or co-authored nearly 800 publications, including about 390 international peer-reviewed journal papers, with an H-index of 46 and over 6500 citations as recorded in the Web of Science. He has founded five companies and received the Göran Gustafsson prize in Physics in 2003.
