Biography

Friedhelm Meier has studied Judaistics (B.A.), Protestant Theology (with distinction), and Philosophy (M.A.) at the University of Tübingen and Heidelberg. Between 2015 and 2017, he was a research assistant for the Chair of Systematic Theology II (Ethics) at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg. He completed his pastoral training in the Protestant Church of Palatinate from 2018 to 2020 and was appointed as a pastor after his second theological examination. In 2020, he finished his rigorous examination at the Faculty of Protestant Theology at Eberhard Karls University Tübingen. His dissertation, titled "Freedom, God, and Evil: The Structural Role of Evil in the Christian Understanding of Reality," was awarded summa cum laude. From June 2020 to March 2021, he worked on a DFG project focusing on ethical and philosophical contributions to the debate on responsibility for future generations. He holds a substitute professorship for Systematic Theology and Ethics at LMU Munich starting in the summer semester of 2025. His research focuses on the theology of forgiveness and reconciliation, ethical questions regarding genetic testing, and fundamental ethical issues in medical ethics, especially regarding biomarker-based medicine.
