Biography

Fulong Wu is the Bartlett Professor of Planning at University College London. His research interests encompass urban development in China and its social and sustainability challenges. He is the author of "Planning Growth: Urban and Regional Planning in China" (Routledge, 2015) and "Creating Chinese Urbanism: Urban Revolution and Governance Change" (UCL Press, 2022), and he co-authored with Fangzhu Zhang the upcoming book "Governing Urban Development in China: Critical Urban Studies" (Routledge, 2025). He is a principal investigator for the European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Grant for the project titled "Rethinking China’s Model of Governance." Fulong Wu received his BSc and MSc from Nanjing University and his PhD from the University of Hong Kong. He has previously taught at the University of Southampton and Cardiff University. In 2016, he was elected as a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in the UK, and his work has been recognized in the top 50 globally in geography according to the Social Science Citation Index (SSCI). His contributions to urban studies have established him as a leading expert in Chinese urban studies.
