Dr. Gabe Kwong

Biography

Gabe Kwong is a Professor in the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Georgia Tech School of Engineering and Emory School of Medicine. His research program operates at the intersection of life sciences, medicine, and engineering, focusing on understanding and harnessing the sophisticated defense mechanisms of immune cells to eradicate disease and provide protective immunity. Prof. Kwong has pioneered numerous biomedical technologies and published extensively in leading scientific journals, including Nature Biotechnology and Nature Medicine. His work has received broad media coverage, including features in The Economist, NPR, and the BBC. He earned a B.S. in Bioengineering with Highest Honors from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Ph.D. in Bioengineering from the California Institute of Technology under the guidance of Professor James R. Heath. He also completed postdoctoral studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with Professor Sangeeta N. Bhatia. Dr. Kwong has been awarded several honors, including the NIH Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award and the Burroughs Wellcome Fund Career Award in Scientific Interface, recognizing his innovative contributions to the field. He holds seven issued and pending patents in cancer nanotechnology, underscoring his commitment to translating research findings into therapies for patients.
