Dr. Gabe Smith

Biography

Gabe Smith is a graduate student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, pursuing a MS/PhD in Human Development & Family Studies within the School of Human Ecology. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development from Brigham Young University in 2022, where he also completed an additional major in Political Science and a minor in Sociology. His research interests lie at the intersection of gender, sexuality, and family, particularly focusing on the emotional and social experiences of LGBTQ+ parents and families as well as individuals navigating gender roles and familial expectations. He is particularly interested in masculinity and parenthood, with a broader aim of developing social support systems for LGBTQ+ parents. His interdisciplinary background enables him to approach these topics from a blend of family science and sociology, emphasizing feminist, critical, and Marxist perspectives. Throughout his academic career, he has presented his work at multiple conferences, including the Mary Lou Fulton Mentored Student Research Conference and the Utah Southwest Regional Conference on Gender and Women's Studies.
