Biography

Gabriel Cuéllar is an Assistant Professor at Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Michigan. His design-research focuses on collective landholding practices, housing justice, and contemporary environmental politics, emphasizing the role of architecture in struggles for spatial justice. Gabriel co-directs Cadaster, a spatial practice established in 2016 that develops design frameworks to support organizations driving systemic change. His work has been featured in various publications by Sternberg Press and Routledge, as well as journals such as Oase and Footprint. Gabriel's projects have been exhibited at notable institutions including the Canadian Centre for Architecture and the Netherlands Architecture Institute. With prior experience at several architecture and urbanism offices across cities like Zurich, Paris, and New York City, Gabriel has received the Architectural League Prize in 2018. He has also been a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota and is an Oberdick Fellow. Gabriel earned his Bachelor of Architecture from Carnegie Mellon University and a Master of Architecture from the Berlage Institute in Rotterdam.
