Biography

Gabriel Glickman is a Professor of Early Modern British History at the University of Cambridge. He studied both undergraduate and postgraduate at Pembroke College, Cambridge, and has taught at Hertford College, Oxford, and the University of Warwick. He joined the faculty of Cambridge in 2015, where he focuses his research on the politics and religion of Britain and its overseas dominions during the period of c. 1660-1750. Glickman’s notable publication, 'English Catholic Community 1688-1745: Politics, Culture Ideology', released in 2009, explores the historical contexts of British and Irish recusancy. He has authored a series of articles analyzing the ideological questions influencing Stuart foreign policy. His work includes examining how domestic political and religious divisions in Restoration England impacted the development of the empire in Europe. Glickman lectures and supervises undergraduate papers and contributes to the teaching of the MPhil in Early Modern British History.
