Gabriel Rinaldi is an Associate Professor of Molecular Parasitology and a Tutorial Fellow at Christ Church College, University of Oxford. Originally from Uruguay, he practiced as a General Practitioner before pursuing a Master's degree in science, followed by a PhD in Molecular Parasitology. His post-doctoral training at George Washington University involved developing protocols for culturing and genetic manipulation of parasitic worms. In 2015, he was appointed as a Senior Staff Scientist at the Wellcome Sanger Institute, where he established a research platform focused on the development of parasite functional genomics. In recognition of his contributions, he received a UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship in 2022, allowing him to establish his own research program at Aberystwyth University, Wales. In October 2024, he transitioned to his current role at Oxford, where his research is centered on the cellular and molecular biology of Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs). His work particularly focuses on parasitic worms from the genus Schistosoma, which are responsible for schistosomiasis, a significant NTD affecting over 250 million people. His research aims to understand the fundamental biology of helminths and their interactions with hosts, with the ultimate goal of developing novel diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to combat the disease.
