Professor Dr. Gabriel Skantze

Biography

Gabriel Skantze is a Professor at the Department of Speech, Music and Hearing at KTH Royal Institute of Technology. He specializes in Speech Communication Technology, with a focus on Conversational Systems. His research delves into human communication, aiming to develop computational models that enable computers and robots to engage in face-to-face conversations with humans. This research encompasses both verbal and non-verbal aspects of communication, such as gaze and prosody, exploring key phenomena like turn-taking, feedback, joint attention, and language learning. Skantze co-founded Furhat Robotics, where he works as a part-time Chief Scientist, contributing to the development of social robots that play a critical role in future technology applications. He holds a PhD in Speech Communication from KTH and has held various academic positions, including Assistant Professor and Associate Professor. His interdisciplinary approach integrates language technology, artificial intelligence, and machine learning, reflecting a commitment to advancing the field of human-robot interaction.
