Biography

Gabriel Taubin is a professor in the Department of Engineering and the Department of Computer Science at Brown University. He holds a Licenciado en Ciencias Matemáticas degree from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Brown University. He joined IBM Research in 1990 and worked there until he became a faculty member at Brown University in 2003. His contributions to the field include significant developments in three-dimensional geometry compression technology used within multimedia standards. An IEEE Fellow, Taubin has also served as a Fulbright Specialist and has been recognized with multiple awards for his research, including the Computer Science Paper Award from IBM Research. His research interests are concentrated on Applied Computational Geometry, Computer Graphics, Geometric Modeling, and 3D Photography, focusing on developing efficient and mathematically sound algorithms for processing 3D objects. Taubin's recent work includes low-cost 3D scanning systems and digital fabrication, as well as visual sensor networks. His extensive teaching experience includes several courses at Brown University on topics such as Digital Geometry Processing and Industrial Machine Vision, in addition to various workshops and courses at international conferences.
