Gabriel Torrens is a molecular microbiologist working in the Felipe Cava lab. He received an 'EC' postdoctoral fellowship to investigate bacterial cell wall biology. Gabriel studied BSc in Biological Sciences and MSc in Advanced Microbiology at the University of the Balearic Islands in Palma. After completing his studies, he worked in the field of antibiotic resistance and pathogenicity of bacterial infections at the University Hospital Son Espases in Palma, Spain. He focused his PhD on cell wall recycling in Pseudomonas aeruginosa in relation to β-lactamase expression and virulence, emphasizing the use of liquid chromatography techniques he learned at the Centro de Biología Molecular Severo Ochoa in Madrid. Currently, he is working as a postdoctoral fellow in the Felipe Cava lab, studying projects related to lipid rafts in Staphylococcus aureus and investigating mechanisms that inhibit MRSA antibiotic resistance. His research interests encompass bacterial cell wall biology, infection biology, transcriptomics, and the development of new antimicrobial therapeutics, employing LC-MS approaches to understand antimicrobial resistance.
