Biography

Gabriela Aceves-Sepúlveda is an Associate Professor at Simon Fraser University in the School of Interactive Arts and Technology. She is a media artist and cultural historian whose research focuses on feminist media art, research-creation, and Latin American art diasporas. Gabriela directs the Critical Media Arts Studio (cMAS), where interdisciplinary research methods and theories are explored to interrogate the implications of working across media disciplines. She has authored the award-winning book "Women Made Visible: Feminist Art Media post-1968 Mexico" and co-edited the upcoming publication "Diffracting North: Contemporary Latinx Canadian Experiences Practices Film, New Media, Visual Arts". Gabriela's work has appeared in various esteemed journals and edited volumes, both in English and Spanish, showcasing her contributions to feminist media histories and cultural studies. In addition to her academic work, she is a member of several collectives, advocating for artist mothers and women in the arts.
