Biography

Gabriela Caballero received her BA in Linguistics from Universidad de Sonora in Mexico and completed her PhD in Linguistics at UC Berkeley. Her research focuses on the description and documentation of indigenous languages in the Americas, particularly the Uto-Aztecan languages. She is dedicated to the careful study of lesser-studied languages and aims to bring their data to bear on formal phonology and morphology, which are topics often addressed primarily with data from a handful of better-known languages. Her research interests also encompass psycholinguistic investigations into phonological and morphological processing, aimed at understanding the patterns of morphophonological variation in morphologically complex languages. She is especially committed to linguistic description and engages in collaborative language documentation projects that benefit both academic linguists and indigenous communities. Her work has been published in several renowned journals, including the International Journal of American Linguistics, Morphology, Linguistic Typology, and Language Documentation and Conservation.
