Gabriela Eisenring is a Full Professor of Canon Law Marriage Law and Family Law at the Università della Svizzera italiana and the Dean of Studies at the Faculty of Theology. Originally from Zurich, she graduated in Law from the University of Zurich in 1983. Later, she moved to Rome where she completed her studies in Theology and obtained a Licentiate (1986) and a Doctorate (1988) in Canon Law at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross. Returned to Switzerland, she began her career as a Research Assistant under Professor Regina Ogorek at the University of Zurich's Law Department in 1988. Funded by the Swiss National Fund for Research, she researched and wrote a thesis at the University of Salzburg on Roman Marriage as a Legal Relationship. In 1998, she achieved venia legendi in Roman Law, especially Matrimonial Law. She has held various academic positions at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross and institutions in Lugano, becoming a Full Professor in 2021. Her research focuses on Canon Law Marriage, particularly marital nullity processes, consent, and rights within canonical marriage; Family Canon Law including the family's role in the Church; History of Canon Law; and Comparative Religious Law with a focus on matrimonial regulations across different religious traditions. She actively participates in international conferences throughout Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Italy, and Spain, and has contributed extensively to specialized journals. Since 2022, she has also served as a judge in the ecclesiastical tribunal of the Diocese of Chur, focusing on marriage nullity cases.
