Gabriela Livas is a Professor and Department Chair in the Department of Human Development & Family Sciences at the University of Texas at Austin. Her research focuses on understanding the individual, familial, and cultural processes that promote positive development and mitigate risks for minoritized youth, particularly within immigrant Latine populations. Livas's work is grounded in cultural models of child development and incorporates tenets of developmental psychopathology to explore mental health trajectories and educational outcomes. She employs community-engaged approaches to develop and test prevention intervention programs that address the cultural needs of minoritized youth and families. She leads the CAMINOS lab, which investigates risk and resilience processes among minoritized communities, focusing on the impacts of racial-ethnic discrimination and stress on youth and family outcomes. Her translational work aims to enhance mental health access for underserved communities by implementing interventions such as racial-ethnic socialization. Livas has received significant grant funding for her research, including from the National Institutes of Mental Health and the WT Grant Foundation.
