Gabriela Valenzuela is a literary historian who examines U.S. Central American Latinx literature from the nineteenth century to the present. Her focus encompasses transnationalism, genre, print culture, racial capitalism, and gender. Valenzuela is currently working on a book project titled “Reading Centroamericanismo: Nineteenth-Century U.S. Central American Literature, 1870-1921.” In this project, she employs interdisciplinary methods including close reading and archival research, integrating queer theory to engage with diverse and often overlooked forms that constitute U.S. Central American literature. Her work argues that these texts produce a clearer and radically different vision of cultural narratives.
