Biography

Gabriele Bavota received a cum laude Laurea in Computer Science from the University of Salerno, Italy, and completed his PhD in Computer Science at the same university in 2013. He began his career as a research fellow at the Department of Engineering of the University of Sannio from January 2013 to October 2014. Subsequently, he served as an Assistant Professor at the Free University of Bolzano-Bozen from November 2014 to August 2016. In September 2016, he joined the Faculty of Informatics at the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) as an Assistant Professor and is currently a Full Professor. His research interests encompass software maintenance evolution, mining software repositories, and empirical software engineering, with a prolific output of 180 papers in international journals and conferences. Notably, he has received the ACM Sigsoft Early Career Researcher Award in 2018 for his outstanding contributions to the field of software engineering. He is a Principal Investigator for the DEVINTA ERC Starting Grant, focusing on the applications of Deep Learning in Software Engineering, and has been recognized with multiple best and distinguished paper awards at major conferences. His roles have included Program Co-Chair for ICPC 2016 and SCAM 2016, and he remains actively involved in organizing committees for various international software engineering conferences.
