Biography

Gabriele Giannini is a full professor in the Department of French Literature and directs the Medieval Studies Center at the Université de Montréal. He trained and worked at the University of Bologna (Master's, 1998; research scholarships, 2003-2005 and 2007-2010) and at La Sapienza University of Rome (Doctorate, 2003), then at the École Pratique des Hautes Études in Paris (2006-2008) and at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen (2011-2012). His research centers on Romance philology with an emphasis on the materiality of medieval text transmission, exploring the influence of French literature in Italy through manuscript circulation, as well as apocryphal and hagiographical literature in Occitan and Oil languages. His notable projects include examining medieval manuscripts, their production centers, and various French texts during the Middle Ages, contributing to the understanding of textual variance and literary contexts of that era.
