Biography

Gabriella Sandstig is a senior lecturer at the Department of Journalism, Media Communication at the University of Gothenburg. She completed her Ph.D. in 2010 with a thesis on media effects related to risk perceptions in urban public spaces. After her Ph.D., she held postdoctoral positions at the Nordic University of Public Health and the Department of Political Science at the University of Gothenburg. Her research areas focus on media effects, risk communication, and health issues, particularly targeting urban settings. Sandstig has conducted several funded research projects in collaboration with agencies such as the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency and the Nordic Council of Ministers. Her work has influenced public health initiatives promoting healthy lifestyles for young children. She has received multiple awards, including the Carin Mannheimer award for promising young researchers. In addition to her research, Gabriella has substantial administrative experience, having served as a strategic coordinator for the Faculty of Social Sciences and held various board memberships related to urban safety and media communication research. Currently, she is involved in risk preparedness communication in urban societies and teaches various courses at both the bachelor's and master's levels in Political Communication and Media Communication Studies.
