Biography

Gabrielle Byrd is an Assistant Professor in the College of Liberal Arts at Purdue University. Her primary research interests include intergroup communication, (dis)ability, health, and identity. She is particularly focused on exploring how societal norms, values, and stereotypes relate to communication and relational identity processes, and how these processes influence interpersonal, intergroup, and health outcomes. Gabrielle enjoys teaching classes that relate to her research interests, especially those that examine the impact of identities on communication and health outcomes. She looks forward to working with graduate students who are interested in interpersonal communication, intergroup communication, health communication, and stigma communication. As an advisor, she aims to assist students in realizing and actualizing their goals and emphasizes a hands-on approach in her teaching and advising style, with a focus on collaboration.
