Biography

Gabrielle Moser is an art historian, writer, and independent curator with a PhD in Art History from York University. She has authored 'Projecting Citizenship: Photography and Belonging in the British Empire' published by Penn State University Press in 2019. Moser co-edited a special double issue of the 'Journal Visual Culture' focused on reparations and is currently writing a book titled 'Citizen Subjects: Photography and Sovereignty in Post-War Canada', under contract with McGill-Queen's University Press. Her research critically examines the intersections of art, photography, and citizenship, particularly concerning Indigenous and racialized representations in Canada. Moser, an experienced curator, has published over 90 reviews and interviews across notable international art magazines. She actively contributes to 'Artforum', 'C magazine', 'esse', and 'Prefix Photo'. Moser has held fellowships at prestigious institutions such as the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art and the University of British Columbia. She was a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at Brown University in 2017 and is a founding member of the EMILIA-AMALIA feminist working group.
