Biography

Gabrielle Wong-Parodi is an Associate Professor in the Department of Earth System Science at Stanford University and a Senior Fellow at the Woods Institute for the Environment. She is an interdisciplinary social scientist whose work combines psychology and decision science to understand how people make decisions regarding climate change. Her research focuses on the experience of frontline communities facing the impacts of climate change. Wong-Parodi employs a variety of methodologies, including interviews, surveys, experiments, and ecological momentary assessments to inform her research. She has worked on diverse topics related to climate adaptation, mitigation, and sustainability in the U.S., China, and Costa Rica. Currently, she serves on various advisory boards, including the American Psychological Association's Climate Change Task Force and the National Academies' advisory board for the U.S. Global Climate Change Research Program. Wong-Parodi holds a B.A. in Psychology and both an M.A. and Ph.D. in Social Behavioral Sciences from the University of California, Berkeley. Her ongoing projects include investigating behavioral responses to climate events and testing decision support tools to enhance community adaptive capacity.
