Dr. Gad Frankel

Biography

Gad Frankel is a prominent researcher in Molecular Pathogenesis at Imperial College London, focusing on Gram-negative bacterial pathogens. His work emphasizes the study of antimicrobial resistance mechanisms, particularly in relation to bacteria like Citrobacter rodentium and Klebsiella pneumoniae. Dr. Frankel's research explores the biology of infections, including host responses, virulence factors, and the relationship between the microbiome and antimicrobial resistance. He has contributed significantly to understanding the type III secretion systems involved in bacterial pathogenesis. Frankel has published extensively on the impact of host genetics on the outcome of bacterial infections and has developed innovative methodologies for tracking infection dynamics using advanced imaging and proteomics techniques. His academic journey includes a B.Sc. in Biology and a Ph.D. in Genetics from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, followed by a Howard Hughes Fellowship at Stanford University. He joined Imperial College London as a Lecturer in 1998 and was promoted to Professor in 2002, leading pivotal research projects and mentoring graduate students in the field.
