Biography

Gaetan Burgio is a Group Leader at the John Curtin School of Medical Research, Australian National University. He earned his Medical Doctor degree from the Faculty of Medicine Xavier Bichat in Paris in 2002 and completed his PhD at the Pasteur Institute in France in 2008. He migrated to Australia, where he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Menzies Research Institute from 2008 to 2012, and later at the Australian School of Advanced Medicine at Macquarie University until 2015. His research focuses on understanding the interactions between hosts and pathogens, particularly in relation to multidrug resistant bacteria and malaria parasites, using advanced technologies such as CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing. His work has been supported by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS).
