Gah-Yi Ban is an Associate Professor of Analytics and Operations at Imperial College Business School. Before joining Imperial, Gah-Yi was on faculty at the Robert H. Smith Business School, University of Maryland, and served as visiting faculty at Columbia Business School. He earned his PhD from the University of California, Berkeley in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research. As a part of his current research, he is working as a Visiting Academic at Amazon, contributing to the Mile Science team. His research focuses on Big Data analytics, particularly in decision-making under complex, high-dimensional, and uncertain data in business applications. Gah-Yi’s work has been recognized with several awards including the 2021 OM Paper Operations Research Award and he was a finalist for the 2019 INFORMS Data Mining Section Paper Award. He currently serves as an associate editor for top journals in his field and is a member of the World Economic Forum Expert Network. Gah-Yi teaches in various programs including MIM, FT PT MBA, Executive MBA, and PhD programs, and has been honored with a Teacher Award. He has been recognized as one of Poets & Quants World’s 40 Under 40 MBA Professors and Britannica's 20 Under 40 Young Shapers in Education. Additionally, he has delivered a TEDx talk titled 'The Power and Perils of Algorithms'. Gah-Yi was born in Seoul, South Korea, spent his formative years in Sydney, Australia, and has lived and worked in the U.S. and the U.K. In his spare time, he enjoys running and spending time with his young children.
