Dr. Gaila Jehoel

Biography

Gaila Jehoel holds a PhD from the University of Amsterdam with a dissertation entitled 'The Cultural Network of Jan van Scorel: Painter, Canon, Entrepreneur and Cosmopolitan' (2019). Her specialties include Jan van Scorel (1495-1562), artist networks, sixteenth-century connoisseurship, art fairs, the art market, early modern art history, production techniques of works of art, workshop practices, material visual culture, photography, and modern contemporary design. She obtained master's degrees in Art History and Art Markets Connoisseurship at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, and completed a minor in Old Master Paintings at the University of Amsterdam. Additionally, she studied Product Design and Fine Arts and Design in Education at ArtEZ Arnhem, and earned a degree in Goldsmithing from Vakschool Schoonhoven. Jehoel has developed an interdisciplinary master 'Operational Leadership in the Performing Arts' at Hanze University of Applied Sciences in Groningen, which was accredited by NVAO in 2021. As an educator at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam since 2020, she coordinates and teaches various courses related to Media, Art, Design, and Architecture. She has over twenty years of experience teaching material visual culture, art education, and art history, and continues to contribute to the field through her research and academic leadership activities.
