Gang-Ding Peng received his B.Sc. degree in physics from Fudan University, Shanghai, China in 1982, followed by an M.Sc. degree in applied physics and a Ph.D. degree in electronic engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China in 1984 and 1987, respectively. He worked as a lecturer at Jiao Tong University from 1987 to 1988 and then pursued postdoctoral research at the Optical Sciences Centre of the Australian National University in Canberra from 1988 to 1991. He has been working at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Sydney since 1991, where he is currently a Professor in the School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications. He was a Queen Elizabeth II Fellow from 1992 to 1996 and is a life member of the Optical Society of America (OSA) and SPIE. His research interests encompass a range of topics in photonics and optical communications including silica polymer optical fibers, optical fiber waveguide devices, optical fiber sensors, and nonlinear optics.
