Biography

Gaoqing Zhang joined the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University in 2023 as the Heinz Professor of Accounting. He leads the Accounting & AI Lab and conducts research focusing on the real effects of accounting measurements and disclosures, especially in the financial industry. His work involves designing accounting standards and disclosure regulations, with a recent emphasis on the application of artificial intelligence to accounting challenges, including computational analysis of double-entry bookkeeping and graphs. Prior to joining Carnegie Mellon, Professor Zhang held the Honeywell Professor of Accounting position at the Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota, where he served from July 2014 until January 2025. He obtained his Bachelor's degree in Finance from Fudan University in 2009 and his Ph.D. in Accounting from Carnegie Mellon University in 2014.
