Biography

Gareth Hughes is a Consultant in Intensive Care and Respiratory Medicine at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Manchester. He graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Manchester in 2007 and has since pursued further postgraduate studies in Workplace-Based Postgraduate Medical Education and Health Care Ethics Law. His professional journey includes extensive training in North West Intensive Care and Respiratory Medicine, highlighting a particular interest in the management of interstitial lung disease and acute respiratory distress syndrome. Dr. Hughes is actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate education, representing trainees at both local and national levels. He serves on the Education & Training Committee of the British Thoracic Society and has contributed to numerous phase 2 and 3 clinical trials in respiratory and critical care medicine. In addition, he holds several honorary positions, including roles with the Manchester Medical Society, where he recently served as President. Dr. Hughes is committed to social responsibility, actively participating in community initiatives as a Governor at Sharples Primary School and with the Hulme Hall Trust Foundation.
