I have worked as a researcher in universities and the voluntary sector for over 20 years. I completed my PhD in Public Policy at the University of Strathclyde, where I explored how immigration policy was formulated during Tony Blair's premiership. Since then, my work has largely focused on migration issues, examining the impact of policies on diverse migrant communities. I am interested in broader debates concerning the nature of the state and how people resist state policies in practice. My research has increasingly centered on how state actors discuss migrant integration and the public perceptions this creates around the concept and practice of integration. Currently, my main research examines the settlement experiences of diverse migrant communities and the barriers they face, with a particular focus on municipalism and its radical forms. My published work addresses the lack of elite integration in the UK, explores Syrian settlement experiences, solidarity movements, securitization, and the relationship between neoliberalism and migration policy in the UK.
