Dr. Gareth Price

Biography

Gareth O. Price is a sociolinguist and political sociologist with a PhD from the University of Essex. He serves as a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Linguistics Program at Duke University, where he teaches core courses such as Introduction to Linguistics, as well as specialized courses focusing on language policy, culture, migration, media, and critical discourse analysis. Dr. Price is a member of the Asian/Pacific Studies Institute and has published research examining the impacts of neoliberalism and globalization on language policies, particularly in the context of English language education in Taiwan. His work seeks to explore the intersection of language and socio-political dynamics, providing insights into how language policy influences rights and reconciliation following transitional justice scenarios. He is actively involved in academic discussions around these topics and contributes to the field through various publications and research initiatives.
