Biography

Garret 'G' Wood-Sternburgh is an architectural designer and educator with a multidisciplinary background that spans fine art, architecture, and digital fabrication. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Architecture and a Master of Architecture from the University of Michigan, and has served in roles as a research associate. His work is grounded in material exploration, informed by early training in ceramics, and shaped by hands-on experience in welding, cabinet making, and CNC-based fabrication. Alongside his architectural studies, Garret has pursued coursework in existential philosophy which continues to inform his critical and human-centered approach to design. Professionally, he has contributed to a range of design and design-build practices across Michigan and Pennsylvania, working in locations including Traverse City, Ann Arbor, Detroit, and Philadelphia. Garret currently practices as an architectural designer at DRAW Collective, where his focus is on publicly funded K-12 education projects with an emphasis on community engagement and equitable design. His research and writing explore the intersection of design, technology, and education, including his publication "Digital Digital Fabrication," which examines remote mentorship and the democratization of digital fabrication knowledge. His teaching approach bridges technical skill, design thinking, and material innovation.
