Biography

Garrett McKay is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Texas A&M University. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2017, following a Master’s degree in Chemistry from California State University Long Beach in 2013, and a Bachelor’s degree from the same institution in 2011. His research primarily focuses on aquatic photochemistry, examining how light influences chemical reactions in water, particularly the environmental processes that govern redox reactions. McKay investigates the characterization and reactivity of dissolved organic matter and how these components affect the optical properties of water. He also addresses the treatment of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), which are persistent environmental contaminants. His work aims to enhance the understanding of these processes to inform more effective water treatment strategies.
