Biography

Gary Born is an Adjunct Professor of Law at Penn Carey Law and the chair of the International Arbitration Practice Group at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP. He is recognized as one of the world's leading authorities on international commercial arbitration and international litigation, having served as counsel in over 675 arbitrations and sat as an arbitrator in more than 250 institutional and ad hoc arbitrations. He is the author of the influential treatise 'International Commercial Arbitration (Third Edition, Kluwer 2020)', which has received multiple accolades, including the American Society of International Law’s Certificate of Merit for High Technical Craftsmanship and OGEMID’s Book of the Year award in 2009. Mr. Born is also an honorary professor at the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland and at Tsinghua University in Beijing, and he regularly teaches at law schools across Europe, Asia, North, and South America. His leadership roles include serving as President of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) Court of Arbitration and being a member of several international arbitration boards and committees. His contributions to the field have been acknowledged with multiple awards, including the Global Arbitration Review's inaugural 'Advocate of the Year' award.
