Dr. Gary Collins

Biography

Gary Collins is an Honorary Professor at the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences at the University of Oxford. He has significant experience in medical statistics and is currently the Director of the EQUATOR Network, as well as a NIHR Senior Investigator. His research is heavily focused on the methodological aspects surrounding the development and evaluation of multivariable prediction models. Gary has published extensively in his area of expertise and has played a key role in international initiatives aimed at developing guidance for studies that utilize artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques. This includes the creation of TRIPOD+AI, which provides guidance on reporting AI intervention studies, and he has worked on various other reporting guidelines related to AI in diagnostic accuracy studies. Gary is also engaged in collaborative efforts with institutions like the University of Southern California and McMaster University to develop responsible usage guidelines for large language models and chatbots in medical contexts. He is a steering group member of the international STRATOS Initiative, which is dedicated to improving the design and analysis of observational studies.
