Biography

Gary Fedder is the Howard M. Wilkoff Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Faculty Director of the Manufacturing Futures Institute at Carnegie Mellon University. He previously held various administrative roles including founding president and interim CEO of the Advanced Robotics Manufacturing Institute, vice provost for research, and associate dean of research at the College of Engineering. Fedder earned his BS and MS degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California at Berkeley. His research interests focus on the design and manufacturing of microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), micro/nanosensors, stretchable electronics, and digital twin systems for manufacturing. He has contributed to over 300 research publications and holds 21 patents, receiving recognition as an IEEE Fellow for his contributions to integrated MEMS. Fedder served on various editorial boards and held leadership roles in initiatives aimed at advancing manufacturing technology in the U.S. in collaboration with industry and academia.
