Biography

Gary Fedder is the Hamerschlag University Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University, where he has been since 1994. He holds a joint faculty appointment with The Robotics Institute and has served in various administrative roles, including Vice Provost for Research and Associate Dean for Research in the College of Engineering. Fedder earned his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT in 1982 and 1984 respectively, and a Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley in 1994. His research interests lie in the design, modeling, and fabrication of microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) and sensor-actuator systems. Fedder has over 290 research publications and holds 16 patents. He has been elevated to IEEE Fellow and serves on the editorial boards of various journals. He has led significant initiatives including the Advanced Manufacturing Partnership and launched the Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing Institute.
