Gary N. Frey is the Professor and Chair of the Department of General Practice and Dental Public Health at UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry. He holds the Ralph Frankson, DDS Professorship in General Dentistry. Dr. Frey graduated with a DDS from UTHealth School of Dentistry at Houston in 1979 and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Baylor University, Waco. He joined the faculty at UTSD in 2000 after 12 years in private practice and 10 years as the owner of Classic Dental Ceramics Lab. Dr. Frey is an active member of several professional organizations, including Psi Omega Dental Fraternity, the International Association for Dental Research, the Society of American Indian Dentists, and the American Dental Education Association. He has served as past president of Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Fraternity. A recipient of multiple Dean’s Teaching Excellence Awards, the John P. McGovern Outstanding Teaching Award, and the John H. Freeman Award for Faculty Teaching, Dr. Frey also sponsors the American Student Dental Association and Psi Omega Dental Fraternity. His research interests lie in biomaterials, particularly the durability and aesthetic qualities of dental prosthetics and bonding materials.
