Dr. Gary Friedlaender

Biography

Dr. Gary Friedlaender is a distinguished professor of orthopaedics and rehabilitation at Yale School of Medicine, where he has significantly impacted the field of musculoskeletal oncology. He completed his education at the University of Michigan, where he earned both a Bachelor of Science and a Doctor of Medicine. His surgical training was conducted at Yale-New Haven Hospital and Newington Children’s Hospital. Dr. Friedlaender's professional journey includes two years of service in the U.S. Navy and achieving the Wayne O. Southwick Professorship. With a focus on limb-salvaging techniques in orthopaedic oncology, he has helped advance treatment options for patients with benign and malignant bone tumors. Throughout his career, he has served as president of several prestigious medical organizations, played pivotal roles in numerous professional committees, and authored many scientific publications. In addition to his academic contributions, Dr. Friedlaender has held significant leadership positions within the American Orthopaedic Association and the Orthopaedic Research Society.
