Dr. Gary Gereffi

Biography

Gary Gereffi is a Professor Emeritus at the Sanford School of Public Policy at Duke University, where he has established himself as a leading scholar in the field of globalization and value chains. He is the director of the Global Value Chains Center, focusing on how global production systems interact with social and economic policies. His research has significantly influenced the understanding of the dynamics of global value chains and their implications for economic development and social upgrading in various countries. With over a dozen co-edited books and numerous articles, his contributions are foundational in the domains of industrial upgrading, globalization, and economic development. His notable publications include the 'Handbook on Global Value Chains' co-edited with Stefano Ponte and Gale Raj-Reichert, and 'Global Value Chains Development: Redefining Contours of 21st Century Capitalism.' He is actively researching the impacts of U.S. protectionism on jobs and trade agreements, the digital economy's implications for international business strategies, and shifts in regional interdependencies, particularly between East Asia and North America.
