Gary Klaassen joined York University in 1986 after completing a Postdoctoral fellowship at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado. He holds a Ph.D. and M.Sc. in Atmospheric Physics from the University of Toronto, and a B.Sc. in Physics from the University of Waterloo. His major research interests include wave dynamics, stratified shear flows, transition turbulence, cloud dynamics, and mesoscale meteorology. He employs a variety of theoretical and numerical models to study the evolution and stability of nonlinear disturbances in the atmosphere. His goal is to improve the understanding of the complex nature of small-scale flows and their interactions with larger scales associated with weather and climate systems.
